- Fake Nationality: Jon Voight (American), Mary Tamm and Derek Jacobi (British) and Noel Willman (Irish) are all Germans. Peter Jeffrey (British) plays the leader of the Mossad agents who recruit Miller. That said, Ronald Neame worked to ensure that they did a respectable job fitting in with the German supporting cast. Voight and Tamm spent weeks with a dialect coach before filming started to approximate the Plattdeutsch accents common to Hamburg, where the film is set.
- Real-Life Relative: This is the only film in which Maximilian Schell and his sister Maria Schell appeared together, although their characters do not share any scenes.
- What Could Have Been: Helmut Griem was the first choice to play Miller but the studio wanted a bigger name.
