Trivia / The Nutt House

Go To

For the 1992 Film:

  • Alan Smithee: Because of their disapproval of the direction, the writers all adopted pseudonyms for this film. Sam Raimi is credited as Alan Smithee, Sr., Ivan Raimi is Alan Smithee, Jr., Bruce Campbell is R.O.C. Sandstorm and Scott Spiegel is Peter Perkinson.
  • What Could Have Been: Scott Spiegel was originally going to direct, but was kicked off due to Executive Meddling.

For the 1989 TV Series:

  • Acting for Two: In the pilot, in addition to her normal role as Ms. Frick, Cloris Leachman plays Edwina Nutt, the owner of the hotel.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The show tanked in the U.S. and was cancelled after only five episodes aired. However, it was popular enough in the UK that the entire series was aired on BBC2, likely due to the style of humor and a setting akin to popular Britcoms Are You Being Served? or Fawlty Towers.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The series has never seen a home video release of any sort. The recordings out on the Internet are missing bits, like the ending of "Accidental Groom".
  • Recycled Set: The hotel sets were originally created for Big Business (1988). The film's producers couldn't get permission to film at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, so they recreated it on sound stages; The Nutt House was a failed attempt to recoup the construction costs.
