- Gareth Van Camp suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, which affects his speech pattern among other things. This is most noticeable in his earliest videos where his voice is slower, more deliberate, and marked with the occasional mild stammer. He's since gotten more control over it.
- He's mentioned in his YouTube comments about how his voice when he's out of character typically only has two modes: "deliberate and emotionless, or excitable, stammering mess."
- This is made Harsher in Hindsight when you consider the large number of comments complaining about how "annoying" his voice is.
- That said, he seems to have a fairly good sense of humor about it. Sometimes joking about it in comments:
Commenter: You sound like Aspergers!Necro: I AM Aspergers! - He's mentioned in his YouTube comments about how his voice when he's out of character typically only has two modes: "deliberate and emotionless, or excitable, stammering mess."
- He once mentioned that the real reason he started making videos in the first place was as a coping mechanism for his crippling fear of expressing his anger.
- Author Phobia: The fact that Gareth suffers from Brephophobia (fear of babies) in real life really puts certain aspects of his Baby Geniuses review into perspective.
- Copiously Credited Creator: He makes these videos single-handedly. So, naturally, he credits himself as the writer, director, producer, editor, and star.
- Enforced Method Acting: He downed an actual bottle of Mana Energy Potion (which is really potent and has an extremely strong flavor) in his Ehrgeiz review. The energetic screaming he did in response along with his twitchy Button Mashing for the ensuing montage were from a legitimate rush.
- There were multiple takes of the scene where he has the Van Helsing: The London Assignment thrown at him. During one of the takes, the DVD busts him in the lip, provoking an angry response. That was the take the video ended up using.
- Never Work with Children or Animals: See Throw It In! below.
- Old Shame: Before he was The Necro Critic, Gareth had a series of random rant videos called, You Know What Pisses Me Off? He is apparently not very fond of them.
- Out of Holiday Episode: He's had several "embarassingly late holiday specials" due to technical difficulties in finishing the respective videos.
- Jekyll + Hyde and The Christmas Shoes were a Halloween and Christmas episode released simultaneously in February.
- School Days OVA Double-Feature was a Valentine's Day episode released in March.
- Santa Clause 2 was released in January, while Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause was released in July.
- Lampshaded in his The Adventures of the American Rabbit review"Happy Fourth of July... as of filming this anyway. Which means, by my track record, it's probably January right now."
- And again in his Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July review."[Christmas In July] just serves as a sad excuse for stores to sell outdated stock, TV networks to fill dead time slots, and third-rate internet celebrities to cover up embarrassingly long schedule slip-ups by doing holiday specials in the middle of Summer."
- And again in his Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July review.
- Schedule Slip: As of late, there's been a tendency to have a few months between videos.
- Screwed by the Lawyers: Because of YouTube's infamous treatment of Fair Use, he has stopped using the site to host his videos. Now he only uses his YouTube page to post trailers that link to the full videos on his website. Detailed at length HERE.
- Throw It In!: In his Christmas Shoes review, he was originally going to scream into a throw pillow that he had placed on his couch. However, while filming, his cat kept jumping on it to lay down on. After getting tired of removing her from it, he decided to just scream into her instead of the pillow. This has since became a famous Running Gag of his, to the point of including her in the credits as "Shampoo the Stress-Relief Cat".
