Trivia / The Nativity Story

  • Actor Allusion: Ciaran Hinds plays the role of a ruler. Now where have we seen that before?
  • Contractual Purity: Keisha Castle-Hughes's real-life teen pregnancy was no Virgin Birth.
  • Fake Nationality: The film is set in the ancient Middle East. Of its cast, Keisha Castle-Hughes is from New Zealand and of Māori ancestry, Ciaran Hinds and Stanley Townsend are both Irish, and Oscar Isaac is Guatemalan-born, but American.
  • Follow the Leader: Likely wouldn't have secured a wide release without The Passion of the Christ.
  • Star-Derailing Role: The film's poor reception and box-office failure helped put the brakes on Keisha Castle-Hughes's career. She might have been able to shake off the film's failure, if not for her also happening to get pregnant at the age of 16; perfectly legal in her home country of New Zealand, but below the age of consent in many parts of the U.S., which ensured that no studio would touch her for fear of being targeted by Moral Guardians.
