- Acting for Two: For the TV Drama, Sanae Jonouchi portrays Kayo and the Snow Princess, while the White Rabbit/Takamaru and Seikichi are both played by Masaki Kyomoto.
- Hey, It's That Sound!: The Raccoon Mario transformation sound effect from Super Mario Bros. 3 originated in this game.
- Late Export for You: It didn't get release outside of Japan until 2014, almost 28 years exactly after its release in April 1986. note
- Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": A minigame based on this appears in Nintendo Land, even though it's never been released outside of Japan. Takamaru and the eponymous castle similarly appeared in Samurai Warriors 3. The game's main theme and a sticker of Takamaru also appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl (the Takamaru Assist Trophy in the fourth game is a borderline case, as it was announced before Murasame Castle's US release but Smash itself came after).
- Meaningful Release Date: This game was added to Nintendo Switch Online on Halloween, alongside Devil World and Castlevania Legends.
- The Other Darrin: In a matter of speaking. Takamaru was originally portayed by Masaki Kyomoto in the TV Drama, while his appearance in Samuari Warriors 3 was voiced by Hiroshi Okamoto and dubbed by Darrel Guilbeau.
- Referenced by...: One of the treasures found in Pikmin 2 is a copy of this game.
- What Could Have Been:
- Takamaru was considered to be a fighter in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, but his obscurity held him back. He appears as an Assist Trophy as a sort of consolation prize.
- Internal data hidden inside the Japanese version of Animal Crossing (2001) suggests this game was meant to be included in it.
