  • Adored by the Network: Before it was rebranded as Pop TV, TV Guide Network played the movie the day before any major holiday.
  • Copiously Credited Creator: Barbra Streisand directs, co-produces, plays Rose, and helped compose some of the music.
  • Creative Differences: Dante Spinotti was originally the cinematographer, but was replaced with Andrzej Bartkowiak due to creative disagreements with Barbra Streisand.
  • Enforced Method Acting: Lauren Bacall had some trouble with the more vulnerable scenes, so Barbra Streisand stopped filming to allow her to rehearse a little more. But she then had the cameras roll without telling Lauren, so the finished take in the film was what she believed to be a rehearsal, but without the pressure was perfect for the scene.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: Lauren Bacall as the mother of a daughter she unintentionally shamed into thinking she wasn't pretty, while being considered a great beauty herself. Lauren Bacall once said she couldn't understand why people found her attractive, as she considered herself plain, too tall and with too large feet - making her more like Rose than Hannah.
  • The Other Marty: Dudley Moore was originally cast as Henry Fine, but was fired because he couldn't remember his lines and was replaced by George Segal. No one knew it at the time, but Moore's problems were a symptom of progressive supranuclear palsy, a fatal illness he would succumb to six years later.
  • Real-Life Relative: The man in the photos of Rose's parents was actually Striesand's father photoshopped in with a young Lauren Bacall.
  • Underage Casting: Lauren Bacall was only seventeen years older than Barbra Streisand, despite playing her mother. But the latter is actually playing Rose a full decade younger than her own age, so it's just about plausible.
