Trivia / The Marine

Go To

  • Actor Allusion: During a chase scene, after the top of Triton's car is sliced off, one of Rome's henchmen comments that Triton is like "The Terminator". Rome (played by Robert Patrick, who played the T-1000 whose truck gets its top sliced off during a chase scene in Terminator 2: Judgment Day) glances at him through the mirror.
  • Billing Displacement: Summer Rae is featured on the front cover of the fourth film alongside The Miz, but is pretty much a minor character with only one speaking line.
  • The Danza: John Cena as John Triton and Manu Bennet as Bennet.
  • Old Shame: The movie was originally intended as a vehicle or someone else and Cena was convinced to do it as a last minute replacement. He was subsequently frustrated during filming because he wanted to focus on wrestling. Nowadays he reflects on it as something he didn’t really want to do at that point in his career, nor was he ready for it at the time.
  • Playing Against Type: In the WWE, Bo Dallas is an Affably Evil fellow who acts as though he is a charismatic motivational speaker. In The Marine 5, he is a violent psychopath.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The role of John Triton as played by John Cena was originally intended for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.
    • Randy Orton was going to be in the third film, but real life marines didn't like that due to his history in the marines, and the role went to The Miz, CM Punk was also in the talks for the role.
    • When there were first talks of a Diva being planned to co-star in The Marine 4, it was mentioned that said Diva would have been Eve Torres, but this obviously had to be scrapped when she left the company, before Summer Rae was ultimately cast.
