• Science Marches On: That mutation-inducing cosmic rays could speed up evolution made (slightly) more sense in the early XX century, when evolution was seen as series of mutations. In the current understanding of evolution, while mutations still play a role, they are not sufficient without natural selection (see also Evolution under Useful Notes).
