Trivia / The Makings of Team CRME

  • Outdated by Canon: Up to about Chapter 9 of Volume 6, there was nothing in these stories that would contradict the show. Once that came out, cracks started to form when Emerald explicitly stated she didn't have anyone who loved her. In An Emerald Unearthed, she knew her father and mother before going onto the streets. Also in that chapter, it revealed that Mercury's Semblance was stolen by his father. While nothing else in The Black Hearts is contradictory, the fact that this is never mentioned would odd considering the importance of such an event. There is also the fact that Volume 7 revealed that Watts was presumed dead by Atlas, meaning he couldn't work in a hospital during CRME. Once Volume 8 finally gave Cinder's backstory, it was completely different from the one described in My Name Is Cinder. And with the release of RWBY: Roman Holiday, Roman's Empire is also contradicted since the meeting of Roman and Neo is included. Thus, the series is officially non-canon.
  • Working Title: The Black Hearts was initially titled Mercury's Pain to keep up with the naming convention of the stories all having the main character's name in the title. However, the author was not too fond of the name while working on it. Once they came up with "The Black Hearts," they settled on that story being the Odd Name Out.
