• Out of Order: Arnold references field trips to a rotting log and under the sea, which would not happen for several episodes. This likely leads one to think that this was not meant to be the first episode, but was chosen to be aired first due to its more interesting subject matter that especially shows off the magic school bus.
• Recursive Adaptation: One of several episodes based off of one of the books.
  • It was also adapted into a computer game that was released just ten days after the episode first aired. That's got to be some kind of record.
• Science Marches On: At the time of airing, Pluto was still considered a planet. Also, the New Horizons probe showed us exactly what it looked like when it arrived there in 2015.
