Trivia / The Mad Ghoul

Go To

  • Recycled Set: The Mad Ghoul was filmed on the heels of Phantom of the Opera on Stage 28, which was originally set up for The Phantom of the Opera.
  • What Could Have Been: Although The Mad Ghoul didn't receive any sequels, the title monster was announced to be part of the monster rally to be featured in Chamber of Horrors. But just like the Mummy and the Invisible Man, he was cut out by the time the script was reworked for House of Frankenstein. Without any documents on the matter, one can only wonder what direction the property would've taken. There is, in any case, a decent possibility that the mantle of Mad Ghoul would've been carried on by Alfred Morris instead of Ted Allison. For one, Ted is more certainly dead at the end of The Mad Ghoul than Morris. For two, George Zucco was announced to be in Chamber of Horrors (and he did appear in House of Frankenstein), while nothing was said about David Bruce.
  • Working Title: The Mad Ghoul was originally going to be called The Mystery of the Mad Ghoul. The shortened title may have come about to make it fall in line with Universal's other monster-centric non-sequel titles at that time like Man Made Monster, The Wolf Man, and Captive Wild Woman. The "Mad" part of the title was presumably left in because The Ghoul already was a film.
