Trivia / The Limey

  • Acclaimed Flop: The film was a critical hit, but was not a financial success.
  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $10 million. Box office, $3.2 million.
  • Deleted Role: Ann-Margret shot scenes with Peter Fonda, as his ex-wife. These scenes were not used in the completed film, as Steven Soderbergh felt he had already established Fonda's creepiness adequately.
  • Stillborn Franchise: Steven Soderbergh claimed that had the film been a success, Wilson's last lines of dialogue to the passenger sitting next to him on the plane back to England set up the plot for a sequel, in which he sought revenge against the men who sent him to prison.
  • Throw It In!: Valentine's line "I learned how to skate when I was a little boy" was an ad-lib from Peter Fonda. Right after the take, Fonda explained to Steven Soderbergh that his parents hired Norwegian figure skater Sonja Henie to train him how to ice skate. Evidently the training was a complete failure.
  • What Could Have Been: The film was originally written with Michael Caine in mind.
