Trivia / The Letter For The King

Go To

  • Follow the Leader: It's a fantasy series based on a book that would debut on Netflix three months after The Witcher (2019) (which in turn was attempting to fill the gap left by Game of Thrones). Unlike those two series though, The Letter for the King is more lighthearted in tone and geared towards a younger audience. The book the show is loosely based on actually predates A Song of Ice and Fire by over three decades, although this series is only a very loose adaptation of the book.
  • Quietly Cancelled: The first season was released in March 2020 and although it largely wrapped up the main storyline, the ending suggests the story would continue and the source material has sequels that could be adapted into future seasons. As of June 2022, there's still no news on if or when a second season will be made; the cast themselves didn't appear to know the fate of the show, with Thaddea Graham stating in 2021 she still thinks there are new storylines the show could explore but they hadn't received any news, and Amir Wilson stating in 2022 that while there was talk of a second season during filming "I just don't think it ended up happening"; many of the main cast subsequently moved on to other projects, while Netflix remains mum on the matter. Given the COVID-19 pandemic started kicking off shortly before the show aired - which would stall production on a new season - it's possible this played a role in its likely cancellation.
  • Real-Life Relative: Lavinia and her father the mayor of Mistrinaut are played by real life father and daughter Andy Serkis and Ruby Ashbourne Serkis.
