• Creator Breakdown: Robert E. Howard had a lifelong struggle with depression, and he wrote this one during a particularly dark episode, when he was actually contemplating suicide. It shows if you know where to look: death and resurrection are prominent themes, and his main character "dies" four times over the course of the story.
• Recycled Script: Shares quite a few plot points with "The Scarlet Citadel", albeit on a much grander scale. Aspects from "Black Colossus" also appear.
