Trivia / The Good Thief

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: It's hard to find a bad review of this film, while the box office barely covered for distribution, not to mention production costs.
  • Box Office Bomb: Budget of $30 million. Box office? $3,517,797 domestically and due to Invisible Advertising only $2,239,148 worldwide, totalling at $5,756,945.
  • Completely Different Title: Not only is the remake's title completely different from that of the original, it has been translated in French as L'Homme de la Riviera.
  • Creator Killer: The flop of the film almost made Neil Jordan quit directing, while also gave him a label of "Mr Remake" for a while.
  • Uncredited Role: Ralph Fiennes plays Tony Angel, a shady art dealer.
  • Vindicated by Cable: Being a really good film with a great cast (including an absolutely genius performance from Nick Nolte) and a lot of critical praise, it experienced a fate similar to The Shawshank Redemption. Performing badly in the box office, it was really cheap for lots of TV stations across the world to buy it, quickly helping it gain attention, a following and finally a status of Cult Classic.
