Trivia / The Fly (1958)

Go To

  • Acting for Two: David Hedison plays both André and the fly with André's head and arm.
  • Beam Me Up, Scotty!: The André-headed fly is often quoted as saying "Help me! Help me! Help me!" The actual dialogue is "Help me! Please, help me! No! Don't hurt me! Nooooo!!! Please, help me! Please! Go away! Go away! No, no, no, noooooo!!! No, noo, noooo!!!"
  • Completely Different Title:
    • Argentina, Brazil and Mexico: The Fly with the White Head
    • France: The Black Fly
    • Italy: Doctor K's Experiments
    • Japan: Fear of the Fly Man
    • Turkey: The Desire That Killed
  • Creator Backlash: While he would ultimately be proud of making the film in the long run, David Hedison (who played André and the André-headed fly) was furious that he had screamed at the top of his lungs for the climax only for his voice to be sped up without his consent, as it made his performance more funny than horrifying. He thought it would be more effective if the effect only applied to shots where he wasn't seen, with a normal voice for his shots.
  • Fake Nationality: The main characters are all Québécois, yet their actors are American/British.
