Trivia / The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $83 million. Box office, $59,468,275.
  • Creator Killer:
    • The film's failure was one of the factors in Hanna-Barbera being gutted and absorbed into Warner Bros Animation.
    • It also helped send the careers of co-writers Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan into a slump that only went From Bad to Worse with the following year's live-action Josie and the Pussycats, which they co-directed.note
  • Fake American: The British Mark Addy portrays Fred Flintstone while using an American accent that comes somewhat of a cross between a New Yorker and a Texan.
  • Franchise Killer: For the live-action series of Flintstones films.
  • Kids' Meal Toy: Burger King released a set of four toys in their Kids' Meals. There was a wind-up walking figure of Fred that could be placed in a red car, the Bronto King Restaurant that came with a wind-up car with Fred and Barney in it, a balancing top of Gazoo in his spaceship activated by a ripcord, and a wind-up figure of Puppy Dino that hatched from an egg.
  • The Other Darrin: Fred, Barney, Wilma, Betty, and Mrs. Slaghoople were all re-cast in this prequel.
  • Role Reprise:
    • Like the previous film, Mel Blanc reprises his role as the younger Dino via archive audio.
    • Irwin Keyes reprises his role as Joe Rockhead from the first film.
  • Sequel Gap: The film came out six years after the original film, and between the two, the original cast decided they weren't interested in doing another film, causing production to get pushed back and eventually restarted.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The film was actually supposed to be a sequel that continued the story of the first film. Because John Goodman refused to reprise the role of Fred and Rick Moranis (Barney) had unofficially retired from acting some years earlier, the sequel was scrapped and this was its replacement.
    • David Spade was originally considered for the role of Barney.
  • You Look Familiar: The dinosaur confessor is played by Jim Doughan, who previously played a waiter in the first Flintstones film.
