• All-Star Cast: Tom Cruise, Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Hal Holbrook, David Strathairn, Holly Hunter, Gary Busey, Wilford Brimley, and even early roles for Dean Norris and Tobin Bell.
• Cast the Expert: The priest at the funeral is Father Paul Paraham, a real Memphis priest.
• Missing Trailer Scene: In some trailers, we're told that The Firm doesn't want their lawyers to have family money because it keeps them loyal to their only source of income. It doesn't appear in the movie.
• Playing Against Type: Wilford Brimley (who was known for his good-natured grandfather-like roles) plays Devasher, the firm's ruthless head of security who will kill anyone who tries to escape.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Charlie Sheen was considered for Mitch McDeere.
  • Bridget Fonda, Julia Roberts and Robin Wright turned down the role of Abby.
  • Halle Berry auditioned for the role of the young woman on the beach who seduces Mitch.
  • Avery Tolar was originally going to be changed to the woman that Mitch has an affair with. Meryl Streep was the original choice for the part.
