Bears Are Bad News: Played straight in the film, but averted during the actual filming. Bart the bear was so docile and well-behaved that Alec Baldwin was genuinely worried that the movie wouldn't work because the bear simply wasn't frightening. Once he saw the finished film, he said Bart should send the Director a basket of fruit for making him look so terrifying.
Mean Character, Nice Actor: Although the bear looks terrifying in the film, animal actor Bart the Bear himself was completely docile and gentle around people.
Troubled Production: According to producer Art Linson's book What Just Happened?, Alec Baldwin showed up on set overweight and sporting a haggard long beard despite Bob being supposed to be a clean cut Mr. Fanservice. When the producers told him to shave off the beard, Baldwin got violent and started trashing his dressing room. Baldwin's agent had to get involved to avoid Baldwin getting fired and he ended up agreeing to shave off the beard. Baldwin later told a friend he didn't want to shave off the beard because he was too self conscious about his double chin. This chain of events became the basis for the Bruce Willis subplot in the film adaptation of Linson's book.
