• What Could Have Been:
  • The Resident Evil-themed Outbreak Crossover event, originally planned for the end of 2020, was delayed and then eventually canceled when the development team couldn't implement the unique gameplay changes they planned for Kenly College by the time RE's 25th anniversary came around. The event was instead retooled into another generic Apparel Event, with the planned rewards for the old event being given out.
  • Dark Zone was originally going to be closer in execution to the first game. The decision to have three smaller DZs with the player count cut in half from 24 to 12 was ultimately due to performance problems, with Massive claiming that the cosmetics' higher poly count compared to the first game was causing performance problems when all 24 players were on-screen.
  • Title Update 12 was originally slated to be the final update for the game, but Massive eventually did a 180 and announced that they'd continue support for the game past its second year of service.
