Trivia / The Damned (Band)

Go To

  • Black Sheep Hit:
    • Captain Sensible's solo #1 cover of "Happy Talk". Vanian was supportive; Scabies was pissed.
    • The band's non-album single "Eloise" from the Roman Jugg, Goth Rock era, which reached #3 in the UK. It's far more grandiose and poppy than anything else they've done.
  • Breakup Breakout: Sensible arguably saw more commercial success than the band when he left since "Happy Talk" reached number one while the band's cover of "Eloise" only made it to number 3.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • The band are unhappy with how their second album, Music for Pleasure, came out.
    • Dave Vanian objected to Rat Scabies releasing Not of this Earth, and several people aren't sure if it should be counted as a Damned album. According to Monty Oxy Moron, when a fan brought a copy of Not of This Earth to have it signed, Patricia Morrison wrote "This is not a Damned album" all over it.
  • Creator-Preferred Adaptation: Barry Ryan loved the band's Cover Version of his song "Eloise" and considered it to be even better than his own.
  • Credits Gag: "The History of the World (Part 1)" was labeled as "Overproduced by Hans Zimmer" on the original album cover for The Black Album.
  • Executive Meddling:
    • Album producer Nick Mason is often blamed for Music for Pleasure coming out as weak as it did. Captain Sensible in particular hates the cleanness and the chorus effects Mason added. However it has also been reported that Mason simply wasn't very interested in the recording of the album.
    • Producer Jon Kelly wanted Anything to follow the Gothic feel that won the band some success with Phantasmagoria. The band wanted a more Psychedelic Rock style. Plenty of confusion resulted.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Vanian only became the singer because Sid Vicious never showed up to the audition. Sid really wanted to be in the band, too.
    • Syd Barrett was originally in-line to produce Music for Pleasure, but Nick Mason produced instead when it became clear Syd wasn't going to show.
