- Actor Allusion: Santa leads the inmates in a rendition of Santa Claus Is Back In Town, originally sung by Elvis Presley. Kurt Russell has played Elvis and an Elvis impersonator in several previous works, as well as sharing a scene with Presley in It Happened At The World's Fair, where Russell (10 years old at the time) got to kick Elvis in the shins.

Chris Columbus served as a producer on the first film - allowing the marketing to emphasize his own filmography - while Clay Kaytis (who previously had only worked in animation) handled directing duties.
