• Dawson Casting: Hannah Tointon was 20 (she is 8 years younger than Stephen Campbell Moore, who played her step-father Jonah) when she played the presumably high school aged Casey. Averted with the titular kids, who were played by actual young children.
• Similarly Named Works: There is also a 1980 horror film with zombie children called The Children.
• What Could Have Been: In an interview with IGN, Tom Shankland said that the children's psychotic behaviour was originally going to be motivated from a passing comet that was casually mentioned in the beginning, but he abandoned that, presumably wanting it to be as ambiguous as possible (so that the audience can interpret the cause for themselves).
