• Colbert Bump:
  • Clips from the film were used by Ricardo Autobahn in his music video "The Golden Age of Video."
  • Stephen King also mentions it in his book Danse Macabre as being the inspiration for Christine.
• Real-Life Relative: The sisters Kim and Kyle Richards play the siblings Lynn and Debbie.
• Playing Against Type: Ronny Cox usually plays villains with no redeeming qualities, so him playing a cop and recovering alcoholic who falls off the wagon upon crossing the Despair Event Horizon is a far more sympathetic role than his usual characters. Played with in that while that's what Ronny Cox is known for in the present day, up until his villainous roles in Robocop and Total Recall he was mostly known for being cast as "sitcom dad" types, so his casting in this film fits with the roles he was getting at the time.
• What Could Have Been: In the original script, The Car had a driver, who was hinted to be Satan himself. The Car also specifically targeted "good people" (current and even former Christians) because it was so evil.
• Working Title: The script that the movie was based on was called Wheels.
