Trivia / The Boondocks - S1 E9: "Return of the King"

Go To

  • Life Imitates Art:
    • In 2014, the Martin Luther King Jr. biopic Selma saw poor box office returns after its release in the wake of a different national tragedy, in this case a heightened awareness of police brutality and racial profiling.
    • MLK may never have given a profane speech with about a dozen N-bombs, but about ten years after this episode aired, a revolution to recognize the injustices directed at African Americans did start in the form of the Black Lives Matter movement. And while the entire NBA has yet to quit out of protest, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began a series of peaceful protests by kneeling during the national anthem.
    • In 2020, many NBA players went on strike during the 2020 NBA Bubble period, albeit due to the police violence from within the nation rather than issues relating to foreign wars.
  • What Could Have Been: Bill Maher was originally going to play himself, but kept skimping on the recording sessions. Eventually, his scene was animated before he had a chance to do his lines, which were instead voiced by a sound-alike.
