Go To

  • Saved from Development Hell: It was first announced in 2018 that Bryan Woods and Scott Beck were working on a screenplay, with 20th Century Fox set to distribute the film. However, when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, The Boogeyman was one of several films in development put on the backburner; in 2020 Woods and Beck said they didn't know if the film would happen. Then in 2021 it was annouced the film was back in production, with Mark Heyman adapting a screenplay based on Beck and Woods' original draft; filming began in 2022 and the movie was scheduled for a mid-2023 release.
  • Similarly Named Works: It shares its name with a 1980 horror movie, and it also has a similar name to the 2005 horror movie Boogeyman, the 2015 video game Boogeyman and Wolf RPG Editor 2015 video game The Boogie Man. Although they all feature the titular supernatural entity, they are otherwise completely unrelated to each other, with this film being based upon Stephen King's short story; the source material in fact predates all the other works, being first published in 1973.
  • What Could Have Been: The film was originally set for a Hulu release. However, a positive test screening led Disney to release the film theatrically.
