Trivia / The Bob's Burgers Movie

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: Despite receiving rave reviews from critics and fans, the film only grossed $33 million on a budget of $38 million, not helped by competition with the unexpectedly huge Top Gun: Maverick opening that same weekend.
  • Channel Hop: The movie was supposed to get a theatrical release in Europe, Mexico, Central American countries, Panama, Brazil, Japan, Asia and India, but it ended up going straight to Disney+'s STAR hub (except in Poland) as well.
  • Died During Production: Animator Dale Baer and storyboard artist Tuck Tucker both passed away while the movie was in post-production.
  • DVD Commentary: By actors H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts (Actor), Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman and Kristen Schaal, director and writer Loren Bouchard, co-director Bernard Derriman, co-writer and producer Nora Smith and production designer Ruben Hickman.
  • Edited for Syndication: In order to fit in a two hour time slot with commercials, FX airs the movie slightly sped up and removes a lot of lines.
  • Logo Joke: The 20th Century Studios fanfare starts out being played on a ukulele (as in the show's theme song), then transitions as though being played on Gene's keyboard, lazer and fart sounds included.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Mickey, usually played by Bill Hader, is here voiced by John Q. Kubin, as Hader was busy with Season 3 of Barry during production. During an episode in Season 12 of Bob's Burgers, Bouchard had taken over for Hader for similar reasons, but was redubbed with Kubin for future broadcasts of that episode following fan complaints.
    • Reporter Olsen Benner is voiced by Nicole Byer, rather than Pamela Adlon, following the show's decision to stop having white people play characters of color in 2020. Harley is voiced by Ashley Nicole Black rather than Katie Crownnote  for the same reason.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Jimmy Pesto was going to have speaking lines, but his voice actor Jay Johnston was fired because of his involvement in the January 6 insurrection.
  • Release Date Change: The movie was originally scheduled to release in July 2020 but was pulled from this date as part of a schedule reshuffle by Disney. Shortly after this the COVID-19 Pandemic and ensuing theatre closures meant the release got pushed back to April 9, 2021 only for this date to be cancelled in January of that year when the pandemic showed little sign of slowing down. After sitting in limbo for several months, in September the movie was given a new release date of May 27, 2022, nearly two years after it was originally supposed to come out.
  • Screwed by the Network: It seems Disney isn’t very kind to the Belchers. As if giving the film Invisible Advertising wasn’t bad enough, when the film hit streaming, it was denied a dual release on both Disney+ and Hulu, only seeing a release on the latter while other 20th Century Studios films such as Free Guy did so alongside their release on HBO Max.
  • What Could Have Been: The course of the movie was originally much different than the final product:
    • The opening scene was a panning shot through Wonder Wharf going all the way to Bob's restaurant, with non-speaking cameos of Speedo Guy, Marshmallow, Mort, Jimmy Pesto, Edith and Harold.
    • The scene where the sinkhole opens was originally dragged out a bit longer and had Mr. Fischoeder, the kids and customers in the restaurant when it happened.
    • There were extra scenes taking place at city hall.
    • A scene with Mr. Huggins sees Teddy upset about his broken burger cart was fully animated but was cut from the film.
    • Many more characters were planned to appear in the movie, that were cut or replaced by a cameo.
    • There was a funeral scene that the family would attend, with Gayle acting like a widow in distress that was cut.
    • The scene in Louise's fantasy world was originally Louise having a martial arts battle with Chloe Barbash.
    • Tina's original fantasy sequence was a zombie pool party with Jimmy Jr.
    • Instead of Grover chasing the Belchers through the bottom of the wharf, it would've been just the Belchers driving away from wharf collapsing beneath them.
    • Originally, the Belchers, Gayle and the carnies went to the Mole Hill to put out the fuse.
    • The movie originally ended with the rollerskating guy falling onto the new patch that covered the hole with Bob running out to help him up, with the camera panning out through the neighborhood.
