  • Dyeing for Your Art: Gerard dyeing his hair to mimic the Disease Bleach of the album's titular character.
  • Multi-Disc Work: A notable example in that the album's 2-disc LP release only covers three sides across the two records, with the second one's back side merely featuring etching.
  • Production Posse: Several members of the production staff, including producer Rob Cavallo, engineer Doug McKean, assistant engineer Jimmy Hoyson, mixer Chris Lord-Alge, mastering engineer Ted Jensen, and music video director Samuel Bayer had previously worked on Green Day's American Idiot.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • For a long time it was believed there would be a video for "Mama". There wasn't. Cut to some time later when an article surfaced describing that there had been discussion and even a concept for a "Mama" video, involving Grant Morrison as the Devil and Liza Minnelli dressed as the Virgin Mary.
    • Gerard said in an interview that the band had sent the album demos to Trent Reznor to see if he would be interested in producing the album, but that he never got back to them.
