- Dawson Casting: Notably averted, with Mckenna Grace (as Emma) and Ella Dixon (the daughter of Jennifer Beals, as Kat) both being 16 when the movie was made.
- Distanced from Current Events: It was scheduled to debut on Lifetime on May 29, 2022 (Memorial Day), but five days earlier a mass school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, where an 18-year-old killed 21 people, led Texas native Mckenna Grace to feel uncomfortable promoting a movie about a teen murderer, so she had Lifetime postpone the premiere. It finally aired on September 5 (Labor Day).
- Executive Meddling: While this is quite dark for a Lifetime movie, Mckenna Grace says that the original screenplay she wrote with her father was actually much darker, but the network had them tone it down.
- The Other Darrin: Emma's aunt Angela was played by Cara Buono in the first movie, but Michelle Morgan takes the role here.
- Written by Cast Member: Mckenna Grace spearheaded the entire project, conceiving a sequel to The Bad Seed (2018) and writing the script with her father Ross Burge as a way to keep busy during the lockdown phase of the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020.
