Trivia / The Ant and the Aardvark

Go To

  • Acting for Two: As stated in the main article, Aardvark and Charlie are both voiced by John Byner.
  • Edited for TV: In "Technology, Phooey," after the Aardvark accidentally sprays bug killer on himself and proceeds to turn different colors and patterns, Charlie says, "Man, he must be having a bad trip!" As NBC aired it, the line was changed to "Looks like ol' Sam's at it again...well, I might as well play along with him" (which was dialogue from another A&A cartoon, "Never Bug an Ant"). Some versions simply edited the whole thing out.
  • Recycled Script: "From Bed to Worse" is a rework of the 1957 Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Bird short "Greedy for Tweety", in which both small hero (Charlie/Tweety) and big villain (Aardvark/Sylvester) chase each other but end up getting injured in a car accident and hospitalized. Both have the same plot points in the hospital, including the one when the small hero gets devoured by the big villain before a nurse finds the hero's bed empty in a panic and has to x-ray the villain's stomach and operate on him to get the hero out.
  • Role Reprise: John Byner returned to voice both the titular characters in The New Pink Panther Show in the early '90s, the sole original cast member from any of said show's source material to do so.
  • Translation Correction: Sort of: In the Latin American Spanish dub, the Aardvark is referred as an Anteater instead, since he looks more like one rather than an aardvark. Given that real-life giant anteaters are native to many Latin American countries, it's possible that this resemblance is more unavoidable to much of said dub's viewership, hence the species change.
