- Acting for Two: George Lopez plays several roles in the film. In addition to the obvious Mr. Electricidad and Mr. Electric roles, his voice was deepened for Tobor and pitched up for the Ice King. In the Latin Spanish dub, Humberto VĂ©lez did exactly the same. In the 3-D version of the movie, he also voices an intro sequence that instructs the audience to put their 3-D glasses on.
- Adored by the Network: Disney (who owned distributor Miramax at the time of the film's release), loved this film, and it was aired on Disney Channel and Disney XD frequently through the early 2010s.
- Based on a Dream: Specifically, those of director Robert Rodriguez's son Racer, as well as some drawings Racer had done.
- Kids' Meal Toy: McDonald's released a set of eight Happy Meal toys, including action figures of the titular duo, 3D glasses, and a dream journal.
- What Could Have Been: Around the same time that she auditioned to play Lilly in Hannah Montana, a young Miley Cyrus auditioned for the role of Lavagirl (as she states in her autobiography, Miles To Go). Although she did not get the part, she met and became close friends with Taylor Lautner, a friendship that's lasted to this day.
- Written for My Kids: Rodriguez wrote the film based on his son's imagined and dreamed stories.
