• Acting for Two: Four actors play every role in the movie, sometimes having to play two characters in the same scene. Traditionally it's one actor for the main character, one actress for all the attractive women, and two other actors for everything else. Scenery not excluded.
• Referenced by...: Sesame Street: A "Monsterpiece Theater" sketch is a spoof of the film, titled "The 39 Stairs". In this sketch, Grover is on a staircase, counting each stair as he climbs it, and hoping for something exciting when he reaches the top. To his dismay, when he reaches the top, he finds out there's a brick wall there. To make the best of this bad situation, Grover decides to go back to the bottom of the staircase by sliding down the banister.
