• California Doubling: The movie takes place in Texas, but was largely shot in Bulgaria.
• The Other Darrin:
  • Mark Burnham plays Leatherface, taking over from Texas Chainsaw 3D's Dan Yeager.
  • Olwen Fouéré plays Sally Hardesty after her actress in the original 1974 film, Marilyn Burns, passed away in 2014.
• Troubled Production: The film was originally supposed to be the first of five planned sequels when the rights were still held by Lionsgate; however, the delayed release schedule for Leatherface resulted in Lionsgate losing the rights, and the original plan being scrapped. After the retooled production began filming in Bulgaria, the film's directors, Ryan and Andy Tohill, were fired from the production after just a week and replaced by David Blue Garcia, who started from scratch, dumping the footage shot by the Tohills. Reports also stated that the film was retooled further in post-production due to negative test screening reactions, although producer Fede Alvarez denied this.
