  • Referenced by...: The Bogeyman's statement about his fellow serial killers "meeting up occasionally, trading stories" inspired The Sandman (1989) story "Collectors" (Issue 14), about a clandestine serial killer convention. As well, a torture pornographer impersonates the Bogeyman in order to get in. However, he arouses suspicion when a con attendee catches him off guard with the "think of a number" shtick and he responds haltingly (as the reader sees a blue-palette eye closeup), then changes the subject to plug his magazine. The Corinthian later tells the attendee flat out that the Bogeyman died three years previously in a Louisiana swamp ("How do you know?" —"I know."), so they and the con chair dispose of the imposter.
