  • Billing Displacement: Bruce Willis received top billing, but James Garner actually has more screentime during the movie.
  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $16-19 million. Gross, $4.6 million.
  • Creator Backlash: James Garner was not fond of this movie.
  • Hostility on the Set: James Garner was quoted in the book You Ought to be in Pictures:
I'd never work with Bruce Willis again. I did that Blake Edwards film with him, Sunset. Willis is high school. He's not that serious about his work. He thinks he's so clever he can just walk through it, make up dialogue and stuff. I don't think you work that way.
  • Real-Life Relative: Henry, one of the cowboys who loan Wyatt Earp and Tom Mix their horses, was played by James Garner's brother Jack.
  • What Could Have Been: Julie Andrews was supposed to play Christina Alperin but did not. She refused to play a woman with a grown son. Andrews was 53 when the film was made.note
