  • Ascended Fanon: Several of the new areas in Subnet Exploration Experience seem designed to add credence to the fan theory you can read in that area (for instance, a theory that the Submachines are looped through the fourth dimension is in an area with subtle Alien Geometries). Since many of the theories are incompatable, of course, they can't all be true. (Or can they...?)
  • DVD Commentary: From the fourth game onward, there are bonus areas containing commentary and behind-the-scenes info from Skutnik. You usually need to collect tiny marbles hidden throughout the game proper in order to gain full access to said bonus areas. In Legacy, said areas now have In-Universe notes or simply nothing except the mysterious Monoliths that unlock paths in the Shattered Quadrant. This was presumably done to maintain the narrative, since the games are now continuous and breaking the fourth wall would be a bit jarring.
  • Schedule Slip:
    • The end of The Core announces that The Plan is coming in 2011. It didn't come until the year after.
    • The Exit was pushed back from a September 2015 release to sometime in Late Autumn 2015, then to December 2015.
  • Sequel Gap: The Grand Finale, Submachine 10: The Exit, came out in December 2015. Submachine: Legacy, a Compilation Re-release featuring remastered versions of every game in the series, came out in 2023, 8 years later.
