Trivia / Stoker

  • Dawson Casting: Mia Wasikowska was about twenty-three when she filmed scenes as the newly eighteen year old India. She does a good job of coming off as younger, though.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: Mia Wasikowska dyed her blonde hair dark brown for the role.
  • Executive Meddling: Park was forced to cut twenty minutes from the film. Only time will tell if we ever see a Director's Cut.
  • Fake American:
    • Mia Wasikowska (India), Nicole Kidman (Evelyn), and Jacki Weaver (Aunt Gwendolyn) are Australian.
    • Matthew Goode (Charlie) and Ralph Brown (Sheriff Howard) are English.
  • Screwed by the Studio: The multiple premiere dates and the slow, spotty release in the US didn't exactly help butts into theater seats for an already nichey, grim film.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Among other things, the original script ends with India killing Evelyn in addition to Charlie.
    • Colin Firth of all people was nearly Uncle Charlie. He was cast, but then had to drop out, and was replaced by Matthew Goode. Funnily enough, Goode was actually who the screenwriter had in mind for the part originally. Michael Fassbender was also considered.
    • Nicole Kidman nearly didn't play Evelyn. She liked the script, but wanted to spend time with her husband and kids. Park Chan-wook wanted her to play the role so badly, he arranged for the film to be shot closer to where Kidman was living at the time. In fact, the house used for the Stoker family home was only about five minutes away from Kidman's own house.
