  • Ascended Fanon: Following the Apocalypse trailer which depicted the destruction of a human planet, fans made a response by the Commonwealth of Man swearing vengeance against the perpetrators. Then Apocalypse launched, with "The Response" video, showcasing the humans' own weapons and their vow for vengeance. Considering the showcased weapons are of the red and black color scheme, it's safe to say that the declaration was made by the Commonwealth rather than the UNE. The Console release trailer confirms this is the case.

  • Ascended Meme:
    • As of 1.1.0, civilizations with the exact traits and ethos as the Blorg from the pre-release Twitch streams will have the Fanatic Befrienders personality, and reference many of the memes from said streams.
    • One oft-discussed feature of the Utopia expansion is the Chemical Bliss living standards, which one of the devs described as using "drugs, anime, and Blorg body pillows" to keep the population perpetually in a docile euphoria, albeit of little use for anything practical. This rapidly became a meme among the fandom, but they were still surprised when the tech icon for Subdermal Stimulation, the necessary tech for Chemical Bliss, consisted of a Blorg body pillow surrounded by pills and injectors.
    • in 2.0, you get special communications with a Spiritualist Fallen Empire if you use a Colossus to perform an Earth-Shattering Kaboom on a Holy World. What's the response you can give as a Devouring Swarm?
      Devouring Swarms: ''HAK HAK HAK!''
    • Players often joke about becoming the Crisis themselves. With the release of the Nemesis DLC, there's an ascension perk that legitimately allows you to become a galaxy destroying Crisis.
  • Line to God: The official forum has a suggestion section, where people can post ideas on how to improve the game. Martin "Wiz" Anward (and others) are also on social media like Twitter and like to chat with fans.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: Starting with their first patch, the developers named each major patch after a sci-fi or fantasy writer. However such names are often trademarked by the author or their estate, which meant a significant investment of time and effort to receive approval for each new patch. After the 3.2 Herbert patch, it was decided the resources were better spent elsewhere and the devs switched to a more generic "space" theme for patch names.
  • Teasing Creator: During his stint as Game Director, Martin "Wiz" Anward would tweet teasers before every dev diary outlining a new feature or bugfix. He would also answer questions on Twitter, often delighting in the glorious non-answers he gave when someone asked a question he wasn't ready to reveal the answer to.
