Trivia / Starsector

  • Colbert Bump: SsethTzeentach's review of the game attracted so much attention and new players to the game that the forums crashed the same day the video was released. The forums remained unstable for several days after, while the game's unofficial Discord more than doubled its user numbers.
  • Dummied Out: Due to its quite long development cycle, Starsector has some things that were changed or removed over the years.
    • There is an unused variant of Nanoforge known as the Degraded Nanoforge, a midway point between the damaged Corrupt Nanoforges and the Pristine Nanoforges.
    • The Omega have their own AI Core that's above the others in value, the Omega Core. However, unlike the others, it currently remains unused.
    • The older versions of the ships' textures can be found in the game files. This includes the pre-0.95 version of the Hyperion, the original incarnations of the Shade and the Afflictor, and unused munition ships.
    • There's an unused and unfinished ship system known as "Chiral Figment", intended to be used only by the Omega Sinistral and Dextral Shards. The system creates a full copy of the ship, which effectively clones the Shard in every way except for the shields they don't have. Chiral Figments don't expire and will fight until they're destroyed.
