  • While it's entirely understandable why Sybok is never mentioned, Rick Berman originally didn't want Spock to be mentioned either. It took much cajoling from Ronald D. Moore and Ira Steven Behr to even get the brief reference that appears in the episode.
  • The original script featured an original character instead of Sarek.
