Executive Meddling: While Marvel allowed Yoshi to be the first gay male in Marvel comics (though Retcon and later revelations would change that), they prevented him from revealing Matthew Decker was also gay. It was alright to make a supporting character as a Gay Aesop but not a leading man.
Word of Gay: According to Christian Cooper, Matthew Decker is also a gay man and Yoshi Mishima, his "best friend", was his lover.
Troubled Production: They didn't have the time or money to properly shoot live-action elements of the PC version, which were hurriedly completed in just a couple of days. Complicating matters was the fact that someone, at the last minute, had the bright idea to paint red dots on the green screen as a tracking method, believing that it would help make combinining the actors with the CG backgrounds more accurate. It did nothing of the sort and the paint faded as it dried throughout production meaning that the post-production crew had a nightmare of a time trying to remove the red dots from the backgrounds, especially as the paint eventually became closer and closer to the shade on the actors' costumes.
