• Creator's Favorite Episode: Marc Daniels cited this episode as his favorite among those he directed, claiming "it all came together so well".
• Deleted Scene: An ending scene on the bridge was filmed, in which McCoy reveals that Carolyn Palamas is pregnant with Apollo's child, asking Kirk, "What will the child be...man or God?" as the closing line of the episode. The scene was removed on the behest of NBC Broadcast Standards. It was included in James Blish's novelization.
• Fix Fic: The Star Trek Continues episode "Pilgrim of Eternity"^note Shelley's poem "Adonais" depicts "the Pilgrim of Eternity", meaning his friend Lord Byron. had an aged Apollo return. He's the only god left and no longer seeks worship. As his creative expressions attract admiration (including from McKennah, the first Ship's Counselor), he feels better and begins to demand worship again, but knows this isn't good for himself or anyone around him. Uhura is killed in an accident. In a weakened state Apollo resurrects her, knowing this could cause his own death. Instead, he is rejuvenated. Spock reasons that Apollo can sustain himself not only through worship but through service to others. They take him to a planet with a civilization at about Earth's medieval days, where he can prolong his life by assisting them with routine tasks.
• Scully Box: According to Michael Forest, whenever William Shatner would speak to him, Forest would notice Shatner inadvertently standing on his tip toes.
• Wag the Director: William Shatner was so concerned with the height disparity that he disallowed any shots which would show him and the much taller Michael Forest side-by-side in the same frame.
• What Could Have Been: The producers originally wanted Jon Voight to play Apollo, but he was unavailable.
