Trivia / Star Trek: Deep Space Nine S06E26 "Tears of the Prophets"

  • Deleted Scene: Sisko, Worf, Garak, and O'Brien select a Cardassian target to attack. The Torg'Q system is the first to be suggested by Worf, as it was the closest system along the border to Cardassia Prime; however, it's also the most heavily fortified. One advantage of this fact is that the Dominion would never expect an attack there, but the disadvantage is that the element of surprise might not last long, resulting in heavy casualties. The Ventani system is the second target, chosen by Garak, because Ventani II was the birthplace of Tret Akleen, the father of the Cardassian Empire. Garak suggests that such a loss of sacred ground would be devastating to the Cardassians and a great propaganda victory. Disadvantages of this target are that the system has little strategic value, and its loss would have no effect on the Jem'Hadar. O'Brien finally chooses the Chin'toka system, because he notices that sensor scans of the warp signatures from the Dominion fleet stationed there were slightly different (and almost "too synchronized") than previous scans, suggesting that they were fake signatures.
  • Enforced Method Acting: Terry Farrell was actually sad while filming her death scene because it was her final scene on the show. She even ruined takes by crying after she was supposed to be dead.
  • Reality Subtext: Jadzia's death was the final scene Terry Farrell filmed for the show, adding an extra layer of heartbreak.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Terry Farrell asked for her role to be reduced to a recurring one for the final season, and was told this would be completely unworkable so she was killed off instead. Many fans have since called foul on this, noting that the Next Generation crew was happy to grant Wil Wheaton this exact same request, and that Jake was by this point making fewer appearances than characters such as Nog, Garak, and Weyoun, despite Cirroc Lofton still being credited as a main cast member.
    • The producers held out hope until the very last minute that Farrell would change her mind, and structured the episode's script so that if she did, then Jadzia would have just been knocked out by Dukat instead of being mortally injured. Some reports also say that had Farrell stayed on, then the scenes with Jadzia's death and funeral would have been replaced by scenes revealing that she was pregnant.
