  • Although the creators liked the Jake and Nog B-plot, when they saw how badly it clashed with the main plot they realized right away that adding it had been a mistake.
  • Also, Ira Steven Behr revealed that co-creator Michael Piller, who had left the series to develop Star Trek: Voyager, called after reviewing the script to voice his objections over Bareil's death. Behr simply explained that the writers had done all they could with the character and were not going to change his death. Piller eventually changed his mind after viewing the completed episode and even promised Behr that he would no longer interfere in Deep Space Nine's production.
