Trivia / Star Trek Deep Space Nine S 02 E 21 The Maquis

• What Could Have Been: In Ira Behr's original script draft, Sisko did kill Hudson during the final space battle. Behr's climax was vetoed by Michael Piller, who felt the show could use Hudson for future Maquis episodes and didn't want to kill off another recurring DS9 character that season (as had been the case with Li Nalas in "The Siege"). Upon viewing the episode dailies, however, Piller conceded Behr's storyelling instincts had been right and that Hudson should have died (but it was too late to change it). Behr ultimately got to kill off Hudson several seasons later (albeit off-screen) during "Blaze of Glory".
• You Look Familiar: Though under heavy make-up those familiar with his voice work will recognize Michael Bell as the alien captain smuggling weapons for Cardassia. This episode is in fact his third appearance on Star Trek, having previously appeared in the TNG episode Encounter At Farpoint, and once before on DS9 in Homecoming.
