• Christmas Rushed: The home console versions, which were rushed by Nickelodeon to be released right before the special's release; the most noticeable result of this is two of the levels being scrapped, although they're still in the handheld versions.
• The Original Darrin: Ernest Borgnine returns to voice Mermaid Man after having been replaced in Battle for Bikini Bottom.
• The Other Darrin: Bob Joles, who usually does the voice of Man Ray, voices Mr. Krabs in this game (although Clancy Brown is still listed in the credits under "Special Thanks").
• What Could Have Been:
  • The original title for the game was SpongeBob SquarePants: Happiness Squared, but it was changed to tie-in with the special.
  • A PlayStation 2 release of the game was planned, but canceled for unknown reasons.
  • Levels based on "Culture Shock" and "Krusty Krab Training Video" were planned for inclusions in the console versions, but were removed; they are still present in the handheld versions and, for whatever reason, their files can still be found in the Spanish console versions.
• Written by Cast Member: According to the game's credits, Mr. Lawrence (who voices Plankton) helped write the story and script.
