Trivia / SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge

Go To

  • Content Leak: The game's developer, Climax Studios, closed its Climax Kingston subsidiary in 2008 and sold off its assets. One of those assets were a pair of backup disks that happened to contain a massive archive of virtually every asset and piece of documentation related to both the Playstation and GBA versions of the game, making the development of SuperSponge one of the most well-documented in gaming history. The development archive contains many things relating to the game's... well, development, including prototypes, official reference materials and production assets relating to SpongeBob SquarePants itself, and assets that went unused in the final game. However, out of everything in the leak, the most infamous items in it are three crude sketches that were (apparently) done by one of the game's artists. The sketches, which are all titled "naughty", depict Spongebob, Patrick, and Sandy in what could best be described as semi-official Rule 34 - very naughty indeed.
  • Follow the Leader: Follows in the footsteps of platformer pioneers, such as the Super Mario Bros. (Starting a level has a black screen showing the name of the level and how many lives you have) and Sonic the Hedgehog games (Collecting golden spatulas and losing them just like Sonic's rings).
  • The Other Darrin: Clancy Brown didn't return to voice Mr. Krabs, and the character was instead voiced by Joe Whyte (who also voiced the character in Operation Krabby Patty and Battle for Bikini Bottom (As well as its respective remake)). It's fairly noticeable here, especially since the rest of the cast reprised their roles (Including Ernest Borgnine as Mermaid Man, a role he rarely reprised in Spongebob games).
