Deleted Scene: Squidward originally had another line at the end of the episode, "Ugly and smelly. Two for one.", but it was cut after the show faded to black on SpongeBob and Patrick running away from him.
Digital Destruction: Due to a mastering error, the scene where SpongeBob's breath chases off a building plays the audio of SpongeBob talking to Patrick from the next scene in all home media releases. This is even acknowledged in the DVD commentary for the Season 2 box set. Releases starting with the The First 100 Episodes set even "correct" the subtitles to match the error. However, the video on demand version on Amazon, Vudu and iTunes has the corrected version of this scene.
Out of Order: This was the first Season 2 episode in airing order, but the second produced.
What Could Have Been: The first draft of "Something Smells" had SpongeBob gaining his rancid breath from onion-flavored ice cream, but the writers decided that it was funnier to have it be self-inflicted.
