Trivia / Spider-Man: Life Story

  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, Chip Zdarsky wanted to do a maxi-series that focused on the entire history of the Marvel Universe, but editor Tom Brevoort felt it was too ambitious and unwieldy. He instead suggested to Zdarsky that he make it about Spider-Man at first. This idea later seems to have taken on new life as Mark Waid's History of the Marvel Universe.
    • Zdarsky said that he also considered it doing it in a series of miniseries each focused on a different decade but the editors insisted he do it an issue per decade.
    • During a 2008 Podcast featured on the famed fan site, Spider-Man Crawlspace, Roger Stern said that he and editor Tom Brevoort (the same editor as this project) discussed a story about aging Peter in real-time as a What-If, but ultimately Stern didn't think he could make it work.
    • Chip has stated that the original sub-title for the series, once they realised they could use the concept for other characters, would have been "Marvel Age," a play on one of Marvels recurrent catchphrases and the fact that the characters literally age. It was changed to "Life Story" for reasons he's not sure of.
