• Reality Subtext: Stan's vilification for not wanting to vote is based on the backlash that Trey Parker and Matt Stone had suffered while promoting Team America: World Police, over their publicly stating that people should feel free to abstain from voting in that year's presidential election if they weren't happy with George W. Bush or John Kerry. Parker and Stone noted that for all that celebrities were claiming that it was important for people to participate in the democratic process regardless of who they intended to vote for, it was transparently obvious that most of them were pushing people to support Kerry — and for their part, Parker and Stone thought the whole debate was pointless and that Bush would easily win re-election, which is reflected in Stan's preferred candidate losing in a landslide.
